EQUIPMENT OPERATOR III

Street Division

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

          

Hourly Rate: $13.69 - $14.95

The City of Kingsville is accepting applications for an Equipment Operator III in the Street Department. Operates heavy motorized equipment used in Street Department operations. Participates in all activities relating to maintenance, repair and construction of streets, drainage, and alley operations.   Supervises work crews.  Performs other related work as assigned.

 

Essential Duties:

Drives dump truck and pick-up truck. Operates front-end loader, grader, tractor, mower, roller, backhoe and other equipment. Responsible for maintenance and minor repairs of equipment. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions with a primary responsibility of training new employees, enforcing safety regulations, keeping written records and writing reports. Assists in personnel evaluations and disciplinary recommendations.  Must use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly. May work in trenches and confined spaces; serves on stand-by crew for after hours emergency work as required. Performs minor carpentry work, painting and concrete work. Works with other departments and performs other duties as assigned.

 

Training, Experience, and/or Other Requirements:

Must have Commercial Driver’s License. Three (3) years experience in operating one or more types of heavy equipment.  Experience supervising work crews.  Knowledge of mechanical operation, proper care, skillful and safe operation of equipment.

Physical Requirements:  Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. several times daily; push, pull or drag up to 150 lbs. of material or equipment; climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, stoop, stands, sits, and bends when driving or maintaining equipment. Works outdoors in extreme temperatures and inclement weather with some exposure to dust, fumes, noise, mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards while using proper safety precautions.

 

All City employees are required in the course and scope of their employment to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Kingsville’s citizens. City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, and/or immediately after an emergency.

 

All positions require the following: 1) High School diploma or equivalent, 2) possession of a valid driver’s license 3) satisfactory driving record and 4) proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to work in the U.S. legally.  The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a pre-employment physical examination, drug screen and background investigation.
