ANIMAL CONTROL SPECIALIST  


HEALTH DEPARTMENT


 

HOURLY RATE: $10.00

                    Open Until Filled

Essential Duties

Responds to calls for assistance and/or answers complaints regarding injured, loose, unlicensed, sick and/or stray animals; impounds animals and/or issues citations; investigates animal bites and animals suspicious of rabies; maintains animal shelter, provides food and water for animals; releases animals per prescribed procedures or processes animals for euthanizing.  Operates mower and utilizes hand tools in cutting weeds and grass, trim trees, operates insect control equipment and performs simple maintenance on equipment and vehicles.  Available for weekend duty rotations.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Training, Experience, and/or Other Requirements:

Must be able to read, understand and follow written and oral job instructions, use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly.  Required to obtain Animal Control Officer Certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services within 1 year of employment.   

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work outside in all seasons including extreme temperatures and other inclement weather. Exposure to dust and moderate noise level.  May lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

All City employees are required in the course and scope of their employment to provide services for the benefit of the public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Kingsville’s citizens. City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, and/or immediately after an emergency.

 

All positions require the following: 1) High School diploma or equivalent, 2) Valid driver’s license 3) satisfactory driving record and 4) proof of eligibility to legally work in the U.S.   The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background investigation.   EOE
