rRisk Management’s function is to find ways to prevent or minimize employee occupational injury/illness and to implement loss control measures to minimize liability.

Seven Focus Areas of Risk Management

  • Employee training
  • Worker’s Compensation Administration
  • Safeguarding City assets and facilities
  • Compliance with applicable local, state and federal posting and reporting requirements
  • Maintenance and monitoring City’s Substance Abuse program and policies
  • ADA Coordinator

Objectives

First is to set parameters to determine risk and exposure loss by

  • identifying the hazard and potential impact,
  • analyzing the risk to determine the degree of risk reduction, and
  • implementing residual risk management capabilities.

Second is to manage risk by

  • avoidance if possible,
  • reducing or transferring risk to designated or responsible parties such as other insurance or hold harmless agreement.

Risk Management works to achieve its goals and maintain its responsibility by close coordination, full participation and cooperation from all City employees and citizens alike by

  • monitoring job sites,
  • monitoring work related practices,
  • encouraging employees to be safety conscious,
  • investigating incident,
  • performing safety audits,
  • filing insurance claims,
  • providing safety training,
  • implementing occupational injury return to work programs, and
  • maintaining City’s property, liability and worker’s compensation insurance.
